Like most people they learn how to read using the phonetics method. Each letter in a word is sounded out until it creates an entire word (B-O-O-K). You subvocalize each letter either outloud or in your mind until later in life when B-O-O-K becomes BOOK. A single word instead a combination of letters. Even though B-O-O-K is now BOOK you still say each work inside your brain - Sub vocalization. The subvocalization can be thought of as your inner thought. Speed Reading can help reduce subvocalization and although it can never be eliminated Lectuer can help you reduce it to a minimum occurance. Speed Reading takes practice and dedication. Another common problem amoung readers is regression. Regression is a result of re-reading already read text either consicously or sub-consicously. Your eyes skip back and forth. If you wave your finger in front of your face you will have a prime example of how your eye moves back and forth while reading. Speed Reading helps eliminate this problem as well. While speed reading your eyes are trained to read ahead instead of back plus your eyes do not have the time to re-read already read text.
