RAMQuota has been developed to control the common problem of application memory (RAM)
leakage. Many applications will occasionally become trapped in an eternal loop which
often results with the application consuming all memory available to a system.
This problem is particularily evident on a MultiUser Windows NT system such as the
Terminal Server Edition. Often a single user will experience a problem with an
application which appears to hang. Unbeknown to the user, the application is trapped
in an endless loop and is very quickly consuming all available RAM on the server.
The result is that the system response time slows dramatically while Windows NT is
frantically swapping applications from RAM to much slower disk based pageing file.
The situation is not resolved until the offending application is terminated.
RAMQuota monitors all applications running on the system and will Terminate any preset
application which exceeds the configured RAM limit. This means that when application
xyz is 'hung' in an endless loop and hits the predefined RAM limit of X MB, it is
terminated before it consumes all available RAM in the system. All other users of the
system are able to continue their work without interuption, while the user with the 'hung'
application, now needs to restart the application to continue with their work.
The net effect is that your system operates more reliably, with less downtime experienced
by your valuable users. Naturally you, the System Administrator can take all the credit!
RAMQuota will even log any 'non-monitored' application against your predefined RAM Limit,
so that you can identify all applications which do leak memory.
