The Tangram is an original and addictive Chinese puzzle game. It originated in China about 300 years ago. The Chinese name for it is Qi Qiao Ban, meaning Seven-Board of Cunning or Board of Wisdom because it cannot be solved without a certain amount of focus and intelligent scrutiny. Tangram consists of seven pieces five triangles (two large, one middle and two small), a square and a rhomboid, which are in the shape of a square. A great number of shapes and patterns (puzzle silhouettes) can be constructed from these seven pieces. Originally there were several hundred Chinese figures. By 1900, the total number was increased to 900. In 1973, Dutch designers Joost Elffers and Michael Schuyt produced 750 new figures and geometric shapes.
