Translator's Advanced Resource Editor (TARE) is a Windows resource editor that is designed for translators rather than programmers. The standard resource editor supplied with VC++ or VB is useful for programmers who are adding one new string at a time to their program. The standard resource editor is expedient at making incremental structural changes to a resource file such as adding or removing string entries. The TARE editor is designed for translators and it does not allow string resources to be removed because this is a structural change that would likely cause a runtime error in a program. However, the TARE editor is excellent at doing all the things that a translator does- editing and existing copying string entries. Because TARE is a standalone 32-bit application, it will work with any version of Visual C++ or Visual Basic resource files. In addition, TARE will read 16-bit resource files but it will only save as a 32-bit resource file. This can be a useful feature for converting old 16-bit resource files. Without any previous experience with resource files or their usage, a translator can quickly convert a program to another language.
