Xlang10 is a scripting engine encapsulated in an ActiveX control. With it, you can add scripting to any program that supports the use of ActiveX controls. The base scripting language supports double precision math, large ASCIIZ string variables, up to 5 dimensional arrays, looping constructs (FOR-NEXT and WHILE-WEND with BREAK and CONTINUE), branching logic (block or single line IF), unconditional branching (GOTO and GOSUB-RETURN), text file IO functions, file and directory management functions and configurable syntax highlighting . Most of the elements of a complete language are present! Xlang10 provides events which, when handled, can provide a complete development environment for script writers. There are events that allow for single stepping, script output (PRINT keyword), setting breakpoints in scripts (with the STOP keyword), dumping the contents of the symbol table (DUMP keyword) and, of course, handling functions that you have added through the use of the AddFunction method. If you do not want to use the builtin methods, or you wish to add others of your own, simply handle the appropriate event and write your own code.
When the Xlang10 library encounters a function that you have added through a call to the AddFunction method, it will resolve the parameters to your function. Parameters can consist of the following:
constants, as in 12.34 or 'Hello'
expressions, like 10 ^12 / 4 or (a ^ 2 + b ^ 2 )/ c ^ 2 or a = 'Hello' (not a typo, assignments are allowed in parameter lists)
returns from a function, like Abs( x - 64 ). This includes nested user function calls also.
If the parameter count matches what you declared through the AddFunction method, then the OnUserFunction event is fired. You retrieve your parameters, perform whatever operation you wish, then set a return value (depending on your AddFunction call). That is all that is required for your application to handle scripts written by your end users.
